It’s a lot better, but I’m still coughing and battling a sore throat.

    Good:
The politics are nuanced, and there is a recognition that the easy answers don’t work.
It’s amazing how different Cat and Aiken look from other people’s perspectives.
    Bad:
If I’m ever an [aspiring] Evil Overlord, I will not explain my plot to the hero, and I will not leave him unguarded in a ‘secure’ prison.
The protagonist is still not likeable, and is still a prat.
    Misc:
Calling the targeted organization ‘Socialists’ does the novel a disservice, because the word comes with too much ideological baggage that doesn’t seem relevant. These folks are reacting to conditions closer to those of the apprentice riots.

This Kingsman could be as much of a series as any other – a good 20 30 novels

I may think about that. No promises though.

Yo… not sure if anyone has mentioned this to you yet… But the Amazon book summary isn’t very well written. Not sure if it’s a rough draft or if something weird happened. I pretty much auto buy your school of magic books; but you’re other works need to be enticing too.
In particular this sentence does not do your writing skills justice, AT ALL:

“But, as he delves into the mystery, he finds himself caught between the scars of his childhood and his hopes for the future, loyalties tested as he finds himself caught between old friends and new.”
That is a run on sentence starting with but, and you used the same turn of phrase twice in the same sentence…….

The City of Shallot is on the verge of revolution. The Great Houses are mustering their forces, readying themselves for a shift in the balance of power. The poor have found a new leader and are – finally – demanding their rights. Shadowy figures and old ghosts are prowling the streets. It is only a matter of time before the unease and unrest explodes into violence, as the wealthy and powerful seek to secure themselves in a changing world. And dark forces are laying plans to take advantage of the chaos .

I’m not sure if there is anything wrong with this paragraph, but in my head it feels like it is 6 sentences that should have been 3-4…….
