Child of Destiny is DONE (Well, Drafted)

12 Jun

“Well,” Emily said.  “Let’s go make history.”

Yesterday, I finished the first draft of Child of Destiny, which marks the originally planned endpoint when I drew up the overall arc.  24 novels, 5 novellas and lots of little bits of background … I feel very pleased with myself, even though Emily’s story isn’t quite over.  I do intend to get into the fallout from CENSORED, as well as finish Stuck in Magic and turn The Cunning Man’s Tale into a full novel (and perhaps the start of a trilogy.)  I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it, at least as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Come to think of it, that’s around 3030000 words!

Anyway, my current plan is to write a short story, add more to Stuck in Magic, then write The Prince’s War (The Empire’s Corps) and then Standing Alone (Cast Adrift II).  Or … I’m not sure what I’ll be doing.  I do have some ideas I want to develop, but I don’t know if they’re worth trying.

What do you think?

One thought that I had was a series of stand-alone stories (not necessarily novels) related to “fixing the mess that Void made”.

Some of these stories might be related in letters from Nanette to Emily.

Glad to see this almost complete, but at the same time rather sad that it concludes the series. I have never been a great fantasy reader, much preferring ScFi, but for some reason when I read the first book in this series, it hooked me, pretty much to the exclusion of all else. I was fortunate in starting late, so as I finished one book there was another waiting.

I would like to encourage you to think about fleshing out this world even more, and maybe spending more time on where some of the characters from this series go, the University, etc. with (of course) some glimpse of where Emily goes.

I finished Drake’s Drum a couple of days ago. A good read.

I plan to do a lot more fleshing out when possible.

Christopher, after purchasing and reading all 24 of your SIM books I am all for your plans for finishing Child of Destiny. Yaaay Chris ! I also bought, the Family Name, the Zero equation & the Heiress & several of the Arc Royal books, (See a pattern Christopher?? I like to read books written by Christopher Nuttall ! Or wouldn’t have bought & read so many of them. Probably only exceeded by your lurker, Paul esq.)
I no longer do ratting’s on Amazon. I’ve had enough of their “High handed remarks and them asking me about an item I purchased from them and then they not providing me any way to reply to their inquiry by telling me I sent a reply to an address that was not monitored. Also using tricks to poison using the “reply arrow” so that their server’s rejected it stating that there was no such address. ie – putting the word “noReply hidden under the Reply arrow link.
I would be happy to create a rating for you and send it directly to you, and giving you permission to distribute it without limitations. Just give me a direct Email address to send it to you.
Amazon, for all their billions are somewhat shady & I have no intention of helping Amazon sell more books, or any other products I Buy from them.
I can’t barely find the patience to wait until “Child of Destiny” is published. The 24 books of SIM, several of them written while you were sick 2 years ago is quite an accomplishment; Well done.

Really want to see Cast Adrift 2 asap please don’t keep us waiting too long, absolutely loved Cast Adrift. Have to admit though my most favourite ever book is Ark Royal, don’t think anything can ever beat it.

Terrific sadness dampens my enthusiasm for a final episode. I am 70, retired military with experience in SEA. Emily thrilled me, I have granddaughters…… you created an environment and described the logic of manipulating magic that made sense. It’s visceral, the gift that allows you to see magic & write a spell, God love you for putting that in my head. Hand on a hot stove, ya don’t do it twice. Couple that with the normal human instincts with her morals. You got criticism for making Emily slow on hurtful reactions. Better that than judge & jury. Now to teach that a little bit of that exists….. more please

How about STUCK IN MAGIC as a series?

I sent you an idea off-line, and hopefully you did not tear your eyes out when you read it.

This is an excellent series, and I am sad to see it concluded (at least the current arch). Emily for me is one of the best heroines in the fantasy literature. I like the universe as well, and it seems that setting suits Emily specifically. I do read your books set in the SIM universe, but without her, half the charm seems to be gone. So I hope that sometime in the future you will return to the Emily’s story – I, obviously, have not read Child of Destiny, but it seems that there still would be a lot of open threads worth pursuing.
All the best in all of your endeavors!!!

    Some ideas:
–Are the demons still conspiring against Emily’s plane of existence?? If Grandmaster Hasdrubal’s soul went to the demon’s plane, what happened to him?
–In SIM book 1, Void tells Emily his tower is bigger on the inside than on the outside and that its as big as he needs it to be–Emily could explore it and find a hidden nexus point and pocket dimension?? What books/forbidden knowledge are in his huge library?
–The little girl Emily saved in The Artful Apprentice grows up to be Emily’s apprentice…
–Other Lone Powers/Magical Families (Lady Barb’s?) court Emily…

Finish STUCK IN MAGIC, please … It’s Emily for Grownups! And then let us see what happened to Prince Roland.

The Prince’s War (Empire’s Corps) is next on Chris’s list. [Grin]

More Emily somewhere down the line please. She is a pretty special character.

SIM was fun, from start to finish. Picked it up for the magic system and grabbed tight to the tail for the ride.

I hope you do more with your Zero universe. Lots of room to grow, now that you have laid such good foundations in Shallot with the generation that will … found the second thousand year empire? I sure hope so, anyway. It would be fun to watch you grow an empire rather than run one down.

I know you think I’m crazy … I mentioned this before … but I’d like to see you pick up A LIFE LESS ORDINARY and run with it. I think it has the most promising premise of your fantasy books and there is only one! It’s the only of your books I’ve read more than once, and that’s really saying something.
