Updates (And Delays–Sorry)

24 Mar

Hi, everyone

I have really got to STOP talking about future plans – it always jinxes me. Five days into the radiotherapy treatment and I feel terrible. Headaches, nausea, tiredness, aches and pains in delicate places … I can’t wait for the treatment to be over. I’m having a weekend break, but I don’t feel any better even after a couple of days without treatment.

On the plus side, we managed a decent birthday lunch – my parents took the kids long enough for us to have a proper break. It isn’t quite the holiday I desperately need, but that will have to wait until the school holidays and a break in treatment long enough for us to actually go somewhere without needing to turn around and come back the day afterwards.

(And if you want to give me a late birthday gift, why not a review? <grin>)

Hopefully, I’ll be well enough to continue The Right of the Line tomorrow. If not … there will be delays. Sorry.

Good grief.. Please stop apologizing for this thing that is way beyond your control… Your readers well understand that you cannot stick to a timeline when you have…..well, you get the point…
Just get better..the books will follow.

Some readers will understand. Others will behave like junkies clamoring for their next fix.

Get well soon Chris. Spend time with your kid and wife. I hear it’s good for the soul.

Chris, Radiotherapy treatment kills the bad cells and a great deal of good cells as well. You cannot feel this part. The aftermath of this carnage .[dead cells and fluid loss] is left for you body’s systems to eliminate. This places a big overload and causes the side effects, aches and pains. This is why high radioactivity kills. Your cell membranes are punctured and causes loss off liquid. The loss of fluid overwhelms your bodies systems. If it’ssmall enough, a person survives, If it is too much a person dies. Enough from me!

I really like your writing and the realms you have created. You are my #1 author. You do not’ have to apologize for feeling sick or taking time off. That said, you are making progress with your writing. I started with SIM, but now you have cursed me with Kat Falcone, zero equation and Arc Royal. [sigh]

Chris, mate, you are not well, don’t apologise. You really don’t need to (ever). Take it easy, get well and come back at us with some outstanding writing. I can’t wait to see the next Ark Royal instalment and the next Empires Corps. Stay strong, my thoughts are with you and your family.

Praying for your recovery. Take care.

This sounds pretty awful. I hope you are well enough to write again soon but you must put yourself first. Thinking of you every day. Take care.

hang in there Chris. don’t worry or fret about stories or deadlines. Your health comes first. Consider it as a holiday for your brain. When you’re feeling better, the ideas, plot lines etc will come flooding in. get yourself better, look after the family, THEN you can think of us.

Just wanted to say thank you for the update. It’s especially appreciated knowing the treatments your dealing with.

  11. Daniel March 24, 2019 at 9:55 pm #

No no no. Do not apologize! You have already produced more books then many do in their entire career. Get yourself well and I will give you money when books are released. But get healthy first! Focus on your wellbeing and your family

  12. Ann March 25, 2019 at 12:54 am #

Your health and wellbeing is most important and anyone who doesn’t understand that lacks sufficient empathy.
Future plans are always guessimates as the future is unknown and unknowable.
Your intentions to write X book before Y and Z are probably still solid so all that has slipped is start finish dates not their order.
Many other authors produce a book per year or multiple years so you are well in advance. The issue is one many authors wish to have – so many successful series that fans want the next.
Write again when its right and not before.

Even if we often don’t see eye-to-eye, this time I mean it: your health and wellbeing must come first. The whole bunch of fictitious heroes and heroines aren’t worthy a single real human life.
Besides, when you’re feeling bad and are in pain, you write stuff that makes you feel the same way when you recover and re-read it. It’s the same with computer programming: code written with alcohol afterwards doesn’t work without it. Trust me on that one: I’ve been a pro software developer for thirty years now. 😉

Stop apologizing for things beyond your control. We all love your books (and your writing speed), but your health really comes first.

    And happy birthday !

  15. Jill March 25, 2019 at 8:20 pm #

Just get well. If you feel the need to state plans just add a HUGE asterisk that all plans are subject to adjustment for health reasons or other unexpected issues. I’m told that kids have a marvelous ability to throw wrenches into plans as well. I hope that you start to feel better soon. Take care and happy birthday.

Now that you are officially radioactive, will this have any interesting effects on your writing?

Are you going to be getting stronger?

Seriously, we are all hoping you get better. Canvcer therapy sucks, but it beats the alternative.

  17. Dennis Baughn March 25, 2019 at 11:34 pm #

Chill out and take it easy.

You churn out the books at a rate a lot of other authors do not. I can name names…they piss me off when I get all invested into their series and then….pooof!…they stop working on them and that is that. Not that they stop writing…they just decide to work on other stuff instead. Only one of those authors come to mind who has a valid excuse that even comes close to yours (he had a nasty divorce and other life-changing events), too.

Your health has to come first. For the pain maybe get Medical Weed if they have it there many cancer patients have said it real help with both the nausea and the pain. And we should soon have SiM Book 17 to read Cursed so that will help us all.

  19. Shrekgrinch March 26, 2019 at 6:49 pm #

I back what Bob wrote 1000%.

And to be a ‘vulgar American’: Take a FUCKING BREAK! 🙂

Ok, we know you can’t resist in desisting all the time. So, get a spiral notebook and pen, keep it with you so when you get some idea or figure out how to phrase something you were thinking of, jot it down until you get tired, then put the thing aside. Rinse and repeat, as we say.

BUT STAY AWAY from the laptop!

Get well soon Chris! I am looking forward to SIM that being said we need you well more then we need another “fix.” Aye, sped time with your wife and kids, and do not worry about your “plan.” Sometimes in life you can never plan you just have to accept and then move forward.

  22. Rob April 3, 2019 at 3:49 am #

Get well soon – enjoy all your blog posts and books!
