On to the Future …

7 Mar

Well, it’s been one of those weeks. Battling bureaucracy, dealing with issues and generally waiting for the radiotherapy in a couple of weeks. (It’s due to start on the 18th.) But I’ve also been laying the groundwork for a few new story ideas and plotting future books – I’ve drafted the first version of the plot for Mirror Image (SIM18) as well as Kingdom of Ghosts and scribbled down a few notes for something a little more complex. I keep having this yeaning to write something on a massive scale, perhaps a version of the first or second world war in space (or in a magical world), but the ideas are refusing to crystallise.

I’m planning to start writing The Right of the Line next week, which will wrap up the Invincible trilogy (but not, I should note, put an end to the war.) That will come in the next trilogy <grin>. Now if only I could come up with a decent idea … <bigger grin>.

TheRightOfTheLine2

Beyond that, this is the rough plan:

APR – Debt of Loyalty (Kat Falcone)

MAY – Kingdom of Ghosts (Zero 6)

JUN – Their Last Full Measure (ALE 6)

JUL – Mirror Image (SIM 18)

AUG – [Not Sure Yet, either TEC or ARK]

SEPT – Debt of War (Kat Falcone)

Comments?

Chris

Me too. Way too far away.

You have to be the fastest author I have ever read. Do you ever take breaks? Take a cruise or something and recover your health!!! I really love your books especially schooled in magic but I’d rather wait 10 years for the next book if it meant you’d take a break and recover.

I truly hope you get well soon!! that being said and not to be insensitive but considering your health and fighting a very deadly illness, is now really the time to even be looking at creating a new universe? It would be cruel to us your fans not to give us resolution on your current works, much less start something totally new. I get being positive about the outcome of your health issues but you also should be planning for worst case outcomes as well. We all hope that doesn’t happen certainly but starting something new without knowing you will have a chance to complete it just doesn’t make sense. Here’s me BEGGING you to at least somewhat wrap up the stories you have going before even thinking about something new. Leave each book/series in a place that if that worst case happens we are not left hanging forever. Or at the very least find an author you could trust to see your vison through to its conclusion.

I love that there are at least two more Kat books coming this year..and you know me, the more ALE the betterment ???
As for a WW, it should def take place in space..How about a new storyline?? Just a thought…

Thank you for planning out Mirror Image!! On a side note, isn’t the White Council furious with Gordian about letting the secrets of Whitehall be used to establish another school by someone who (because of Gordian) never swore an oath to Whitehall or the Allied Lands?? Can they even access the control room without Emily? (Master Wolf tied security measures directly into the original wards only allowing the founders access–Emily was recognized when she stumbled into in while exploring in old Whitehall…) A major defense point vital for the security of the Allied Lands is now being established at Heartseye–and Emily controls it…

Mirror Image is set in Hearts Eye for sure, won’t say I’ll eat my hat as Chris might throw a curveball! Wonder if the mirrors are the mirror universes, like forks in the road? Emily has made many decisions that has caused unintended upheavals in society. Maybe the mirrors can show what happens if she made a different decision? Like if she had accidently killed Alassa, or had accepted Jade’s hand in marriage, or didn’t introduce new learning? Looking forward to it though as it’s gonna be a rollercoaster ride!

Chris, your fires certainly burn brightly. I always look forward to your next publication. We’re lucky to have such a prolific and talented writer. I just stumbled onto a couple of books about the Falklands War that I found fascinating. “Vulcan 607” by White, and “The Falklands War” by Middlebrook provide two different takes on the event. The lesson of both is that modern weapons are so destructive and effective that establishing the proper preconditions for battle are essential, and this requires more than just the willingness of a tyrant to march his conscripts into the mouth of an inferno. It was also instructive to compare the behavior of the Argentine “liberators” with the peaceful inhabitants of the Falklands. It will be sad if the Falklands are the last gasp of a free Britain. May is a pitiful shadow of Thatcher, let alone Churchill. Who could imagine that Englishmen who have historically fought for their freedom, and the freedoms of the common man in Europe, would surrender their hard won rights over tariffs and bureaucratic minutiae in a Northern Ireland.

Chris, Health first but I look forward to your books especially the SIM (always my favourite) but I love the Kat Falcone and the ALE books. I loved the first three Zero books but have not enjoyed the follow on books as much, I get too invested in the main series characters. Just get well so we can keep enjoying your wonderful offerings. I am struggling with my first book right now and I really do not know how you do it. Best Wishes

Wow, Chris, ambitious schedule. Dedicated to your craft, God’s speed to that and your continued recovery. G and SP have been thinking, I like it. But there was an oath sworn by Emily and its seldom mentioned. WW in fantasy – Emily has a nuke!!

    • Paul (Drak Bibliophile) Howard March 8, 2019 at 5:18 pm #

      Oh Chris hasn’t forgotten Emily’s Oath. 😉

  11. Rhino March 8, 2019 at 10:09 pm #

Ahh, Drak, with the inside track. Ya tease! Only one other knew of the oath, and he is with the demons – and I don’t think they are done yet either. Nobody will guess the workings of the Nuttall mind, but, they may be several who will have to reread some volumes – maybe starting with the very first. This is great fun. Endeavor to persevere!

    • Paul (Drak Bibliophile) Howard March 8, 2019 at 10:18 pm #

Only one other along with whoever he told and no I don’t know if he told anybody else. 😉

Note, the oath came up in one of the books when she was “soul scanned”. Of course, the terms of the oath (ie who the oath was with) didn’t get revealed.

    For SIM universe:

One way of starting a massive war would be a rumour that Beneficence was absorbed by Zangeria. It won’t seem far fetched as Emily is a Baroness who is entitled to armed escort. An incident between her personal guards and city guards can be taken the wrong way. Other Kingdoms could use the justification to snap up unaligned city states.

The *why* is easy, Zangeria would be the one nation that can benefit from new learning as the rulers understand how to adapt to the changes better. The other kingdoms see it as the revival of the Empire centred on Zangeria.

Would like to see this written in the perspectives of history monks, commoners, generals and spies.

I think I might have missed something, somewhere but what ever happened to Cursed as the new SIM book after The Broken Throne or has the name changed to Mirror Image? Would love to have a clarification on that or a possible release date.

    • Paul (Drak Bibliophile) Howard March 9, 2019 at 4:55 am #

Cursed is currently in the “final edit” process and hopefully will be out in a few weeks.

Mirror Image is the SIM book that follows Cursed.

  14. Bryce March 9, 2019 at 3:40 am #

does anyone know when the cursed book is coming out?

  15. Hanno Frerichs March 9, 2019 at 12:09 pm #

I like most of your works, and would love too see a new greater universe, After all it’s the right time to plan it,as SIM seems to be close to the finishline, I think it will be finished in the next year. while I don’t know how many arc royal or empire corps books are still planned for.

With sim mostly done, and except for the zero universe most of your then remaining book series being SF I would prefer the next major book series to be magic.

Well if it’s something like worldwar one or two magic seems also to be the better scale. As it’s still one world.

On that note, please don’t make a nuke spell as simple as it’s in SIM. (nothing that a single person can cast at all.)

  16. Big Ben March 11, 2019 at 5:06 pm #

I agree with many other comments … I look forward to whatever you put out next, even a huge new series, but I would really like some of the existing series wrapped up.
You are delightfully prolific, but you have so many series running simultaneously that we only get a new book or two per year in any given series. (What a silly gripe, I know ..)

Hope the upcoming round of treatments are successful and your recovery is swift.

Get Berger Soon! We are all depending on you. But,when you do write, anything Kat Falcione is much appreciated.
