It’s been a frustrating week.

25 Nov

It’s been a frustrating week.

On one hand, I’m 29 chapters into The Alchemist’s Apprentice. I have a good idea of how the story is going to end – turning the plot into something real is always fraught at this stage – and I’m hopeful that I’ll have the first draft finished on Friday.

On the other hand, the drugs have been worse this time. After my third treatment, I had lots of energy; after the fourth, I was tired and worn for the first two days and grotty afterwards for a few more days. The doctor was hopeful that there wouldn’t be any need for more treatments, after the last two are completed (Dec 7th/28th), but we won’t know for sure until we do scans in January. I’ve been feeling so much better than I was three months ago that I’m hopeful <grin>.

I’m still going backwards and forwards on what to write after TAA. I do want to write something new, i.e. Family Magic, but I also want to write Cursed. But, at the same time, I want to try and put a break between TAA and Cursed because they’re both fantasy books; it might be a good time to write The Pen and the Sword, which is the start of a new The Empire’s Corps arc. AND I probably need more plot thoughts for FM, as the story right now is looking to be a little shorter than I like.

On the plus side, my younger son is now a year old! And already starting to walk!

He’s starting to walk? Or do you mean running? 😉

Get well soon Chris (P.S my vote is definately for Cursed please. Two fantasy books in a row is fine, you’re mind is already on magic) x x x x x

It’s good to hear your kid is one year old. This is about that time he starts becoming a real handful of trouble. LOL of course u already know that.

It’s good to hear you are still feeling well enough to write. I love your books!! If your still deciding on what to write, and not wanting to start on cursed, perhaps I can convince you to write the next installment in ALE. I love this series.

    Chris,
    Happy Holidays.
Glad to see your fight for health is going well. Keep up the good fight!

Sorry this round got you down..but on the bright side you will have to feel better to keep up with a running youngster..that always keeps you going..
As for the next book, I’m still pressing for SciFi and The Learning Experience…I never see you mention it in your thoughts of future writing…Is it a dead issue?? If so, I’ll stop asking..
    Thanx,
    Bob

LE might be my favorite of Chris’ series. But to be fair we did get book 5 not that long ago. Chris just produces product at such a fast rate it’s amazing. That said I’m all for him dropping a totally new story in a totally new world. Variety is the spice of life. I’d love to see some good uplifting classic British scifi like the works of the deeply missed Arthur C Clarke. A Rama or Fountains of Paradise. Something that is optimistic about humanity’s future but still a great story

      It is on the list

Chris. Out of curiosity what’s up on the audiobook front. I assume broken throne is being recorded. Anything else?

Make sure you get enough rest…but I vote for finishing this arc of Cursed…

You’ll get through it man. My Aunt and Nana both have survived cancer (my aunt twice). There are good days and bad days. Always keep the reasons to be on this planet in the front of your mind. Wife Children etc.
as to what’s next. Sci fi to clean out the fantasy. If you go from one fantasy to another the worlds can start blending. Pen and sword. Or go off the walls and do a singleton something not from any existing universe a stand alone not meant to be anything except a self contained novel

Sorry you have been feeling under the weather following your latest treatment so its pretty amazing that you still wrote 15 chapters of TAA in a week. I am so looking forward to reading that book.
The Pen and the Sword or Cursed! What a dilemma. I can hardly decide but I think I’ll go with Cursed please.
I can’t believe your baby son is already a year old. Take care.

Glad your feeling better and I don’t want to be greedy but after the way you left broken throne I really want you to write cursed to :p

I took six rounds of R-CHOP seven years ago. You will feel better and more rapidly than you would expect. In the meantime, listen to your body and rest when it tells you to. Recovery so you can spend more time with that family matters a whole lot more than a bunch of pushy fans. We’re safely hooked. We’ll still be here when you get back.

I kind of resent the “bunch of pushy fan” thing.. If you’d bother to read the comments, they all wish him well before any mention of additional writing…

“I’ve been feeling so much better than I was three months ago that I’m hopeful .”
    – what I like to hear!

It’s good to hear that you’re continuing to feel better than 3 months ago. A continuous upward projection isn’t typical in real life, but I hope the trend continues to be sharply positive. Congrats on the little one reaching his milestone. Write whatever you feel like. We’re just glad you’re doing better.

Me too. But I feel down after the 5th cycle of chemo …

I’ve just finished “Broken Throne” and very much enjoyed it, thanks. Keep well.

I hope all gets better. Every one needs good news as for books I do not mind having 2 fantasy books in a row as long as one is Cursed….. Please

  15. Ann November 28, 2018 at 9:29 pm #

Cursed is what I’d like to read.
    My prayers are with you.
Have you checked out alternative therapies overseas? Or monitored water fasting?

Somethign completely different…I have not seen antything on Famly magic. A novel set in teh modern world in which a few famllies have access to magic, perhaps limited say to weak cantrips and power ritual spellcastings, but these families stay invisible, untilthe Martians invade.

Good luck with the treatment. I love your books and I think I have every single one. Massive fan. Rre your next book I guess my vote goes for either Cursed or an Empire Corps or perhaps another Ark Royal chapter. My vote also goes for not starting a compoletely new series unrelated as the gaps between getting each new one then get even longer. Sorry that sounds selfish.

All I know is that I need Cursed ASAP!
