Updates–More Good Than Bad

3 Nov

Well, it’s been a very interesting week.

Good news first – I managed to write Monday-Friday, allowing me to complete the first draft of Para Bellum. (The planned title for Book 14 of Ark is The Right of the Line.) This was an immense relief to me, although – as the drugs are starting to wear off – next week might be unpleasant and uncomfortable. It will get editing, of course, and then hopefully uploaded soon.

Slightly better news – The Broken Throne should be out on Monday 5th. Enjoy it with your fireworks! <grin>.

I’m planning to start writing The Alchemist’s Apprentice in a week (see the snippet below), with an eye to getting it completed before the end of the month. And then? Well, we’ll see <grin>. It’s nice to feel optimistic again, although things have been veering backwards and forwards over the last week or so. There haven’t been any truly bad side effects this time, but I feel as if I’ve been sunburnt everywhere; this is, apparently, one of the more common side effects. But it isn’t threatening me with starvation, so I can endure.

And I might try and write a few more reviews, as well as a couple of other things during the next few days.

The bad news is that I have a CT scan on Monday too, then a pair of appointments next week before the fourth round of chemo. (They’re probably going to continue, even if the scan says the lymphoma is gone.) Wish me luck.

Since 2002 I have had colon cancer (cured) and recurrent prostate cancer (third cure in process). Thanks to excellent medical care I am still around and feel great, when I am not in treatment. Hang in there. It gets better and better.

I don’t know how similar your affliction is to that of my parents. Both had cancer of one type or another and survived it (and without recurrence) for years. Best of luck! G.

Very glad you’ve felt well enough to write. Fingers crossed that your treatments aren’t as unpleasant as expected and more importantly that you get a great result! Best wishes.

All strength to you Christopher. I’m now in remission for my second bout of cancer (bowel in 14/15 & liver in 16/17) and feel pretty good now I’m on the “high” side. It can and does get better, especially with the love of your family and support of your fans (me included). Its ironic that during my chemo infusions, I would read your books and listen to music. Take care and realise that your support network is worldwide. Peter W.

Take your time and get enough rest ok. The books can wait. You work too hard sometimes. Your health comes first.

Best of luck with your recovery, Chris: I believe I said it before that these things are survivable – and I believe I mentioned that I know it from my own experience.
But if I were you, I’d postpone the reviews until I’m feeling well: I know I tend to be, shall we say, less charitable to others when I’m uncomfortable and in pain. Unless you’re planning more Heinlein’s reviews? From those of your reviews of his works that I’ve read, it looks like reviewing him can well and truly make you feel better.

As much as I love your books, you’re first priority is to look after yourself. My prayers are for your full and speedy recovery.

I found “The Broken Throne”. As usual for Amazon shortly after a book becomes available, it took a bit of searching to find it. Now to read it.

  21. Joe November 5, 2018 at 11:47 pm #

I was able to download a copy this evening. It is not connected to Chris’s authors page yet, I did a search for “the Broken Throne”, you need to include “The” or it does not find it.

    Don’t over do it Chris.

  28. Scott Williams November 20, 2018 at 7:11 pm #

Christopher, my name is Scotty Williams and I am a Texan. I am so very sorry for your health challenges and pray you continue to improve. I have read your entire Empire Corps and Arm Royal series and am a complete fan of both. I want to thank you for including the name of USS Texas in your last book in the Ark Royal series. You do my country and my state great honor. You have done my nation and my family a great honor of modelling the Empire Marine Corps after many of the traditions of the USMC. You see, my father was a LTC in the Corps, while I served with the army for almost seven and a half years. You are right that military service often transcends the nation we serve and connects on a more personal level those who have served. I guess that’s why veterans tend to gravitate towards each other. Thank you for the way you portray service members the world over, and while we aren’t saints by a long shot we are always grateful for acknowledgement for what are and were. Sincerely, Scotty
