More Updates – The Broken Throne, Para Bellum, Me Personally …

26 Oct

Well, I had the third set of chemotherapy treatments today. I felt a little woozy at first, but by the time I got home I was brimming with energy. Naturally, I decided to cook. It’s a hobby that was in no way influenced by the Eternal Emperor. (There’s a specifically specific denial for you.) There will probably be a crash in a day or two, but for the moment I feel fine. I hope it will last.

The Broken Throne – I’m just working on the final (hopefully) set of edits now. I’m hoping to get it into the publisher by Sunday at the latest, depending on how things go. I’ve also written most of the plot of Cursed, which will be Book 17 of the saga. As you can see, the cover is pretty awesome:

Assuming things go to plan, Cursed will be followed by Mirror Image, The Artful Apprentice, Oathkeeper, A House Divided, The Price of Power and Lone Power. That’s the planned set of titles, at least. Emily will found her university, start her apprenticeship with Void, pay her debts, then find herself plunged into the most dangerous challenge of all.

Para Bellum – currently on 25 chapters. I have a good idea of how the remaining 15 chapters are going to go, so ideally I should have the first draft finished next week. That said, I will still be recovering from chemo. No promises. Sorry.

Everything else – put back behind those two <grin>.

My vague plan is to follow Para Bellum with The Alchemist’s Apprentice, then Cursed, then The Pen and the Sword (TEC 15), but we will see.

Chris

I’m glad you’re feeling well enough to enjoy cooking and do all the writing. Just get better. That’s the main thing. We all want you to be around for a long time! Best wishes.

Thanks for the update. Continuing to pray for your recovery.

    Take Care!

Of course, recovering your health is the priority, and the really good news. It even makes me feel better about my personal favourite, the Kat Falcone series, apparently being firmly on the backburner and those I dislike most, the Ark Royal, continuing unabated (grin). And regarding all the earlier political posts, here is something to say about the Divides States of Anerica: https://www.news.com.au/finance/economy/world-economy/is-america-headed-for-a-new-civil-war-fury-violence-and-now-bombs-show-a-us-deeply-divided/news-story/b95c0f751b21094453681b2ad3f588d4
(Already I can hear some of your fans snapping, Typical Liberal Bullshit! A familiar refrain, by now (grin)).

The next Kat book has been written, but delayed because I got ill. There’s a prospect of not meeting the planned deadline for the remaining two books in the series. Hopefully, things will improve and we can bring them out earlier.

Hope you continue to feel better. You are obviously brim full of good ideas.

I wish you a speedy recovery

I’m glad you’re feeling better…while I love the SIM series, I’m glad the ending is in sight–you can always bring back the characters for another series set 10, 20, or 30 years in the future (and I hope you do…)!

It’s good news that you are feeling good! And I hope this becomes a small blip in a very long life. 😀

I’m very excited for more of your books. I’ve been excited about many of your book series and I’m right now rereading SIM series so I’m back in the grove. LOL

So the Sten novels were an inspiration? There were only eight of them, you realize. You’ve taken Emily and the imperial marines much farther. And still so far to go!

      They’re remarkable – and unique.

1 super glad you are feeling better
2 thats amazing to see the SIM road map!
3 I’m very happy with the planned writing schedule you posted
4 where do more Kat Falcone books come in its been interesting reading your take on the honorverse( ok I may just be seeing the similarities and projecting)
    5 any SIM side projects

    • chrishanger November 3, 2018 at 8:52 pm #

I do plan a handful of SIM side-stories, but I’d have to find time to write them

I always hoped Emily, who started the series essentially alone, could end up with a partner and children…but with those tittles it doesn’t seem likely…

One of the reasons I like this series is because it’s not drowning in romance. There are a lot of authors who claim to be fantasy authors and yet their books are 96% romance and 4 % fantasy. And the magic system in these stories is usually weak. It’s a breath of fresh air to be able to read a book and not have to hear how hot the beau is every other sentence.

        I know the feeling

While Emily having children and getting with a significant other is distinctly possible, it may not be for the best and she could very well know it. She’s particularly powerful for her age and, in this society, there would likely be a challenge in finding a man who can handle being eclipsed by their female partner in political -and- magical strength.

Her children would also be a concern. Would they be powerful too? Would they be -safe-? They could end up a target, regardless of their own capabilities.

Sometimes, some people just… aren’t meant to be in a relationship. It’s a sad thought, but not every story has a happy ending. -Especially- in that front.

      • G October 30, 2018 at 12:50 am #

These have been issues for many powerful women down through the ages…they can still be dealt with…children can be raised in secret and fostered to House Ashworth with false identities…

    • Paul (Drak Bibliophile) Howard October 27, 2018 at 3:21 pm #

Well, if the “Lone Power” title refers to Emily, “Lone Power” seems to refer to people powerful enough that they don’t need to be allied with any of the powerful groups on the Nameless World.

A Lone Power could still (in theory) be married with children.

And No, while I know something of what Chris has planned for Emily, I have no idea of how Chris will leave Emily at the end of Lone Power.

Glad you are feeling better. I was worried about you. Looking forward too the next sim books. The titles have me excited. I especially like the lone power one.

Wow!!! What an update! Recalling a favorite movie quote by the Indian character in Clint Eastwood’s “The Outlaw Josie Wales”…… Endeavor to persevere. Admire your grit, sounds like you are hanging tough and your plan is awesome – many questions answered. You are a great story teller and I hope your path gets easier

I do have to ask. Is the truth of Emily coming from Earth going to be revealed to the Nameless World at some point during the series?

    • Paul (Drak Bibliophile) Howard October 28, 2018 at 12:24 pm #

I don’t know for sure but I suspect that the White Council will learn about that.

    • chrishanger November 3, 2018 at 8:57 pm #

      Maybe

I’m glad to hear your chemo is progressing and you sound in good spirits.
Its good to hear The Pen and the Sword is still on the horizon, I’m so looking forward to it. Currently, I’m re-reading TEC12 (Mandy and Mindy are just clearing out the unwanted childhood stuff they left behind at the Professor’s house). Thankfully, The Broken Throne will soon be available – I’m having serious withdrawal symptoms (worse than being on a diet) and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
Keep getting well, I can’t imagine how tough all this must be on you, but you’re obviously a real trooper. Take care.

One infers that she will recover from being magic-free.

    • Paul (Drak Bibliophile) Howard October 29, 2018 at 2:59 am #

Mild Spoiler. Finding out why she’s “magic-free” and “fixing it” is the plot of Cursed. 😀

  16. George Phillies October 29, 2018 at 5:46 pm #

Even more titles will doubtless follow.
