Quick Update

17 Aug

It’s not been a good week.

The good news is that I finished the first draft of The Broken Throne on Saturday 11th. The bad news is that my health went downhill spectacularly on Sunday 12th, not helped by extremely unpleasant medical tests on Tuesday and Thursday. We’ve been promised a proper dioganis in a week or so, until then …

Things have been a bit stalled, as you might have realised. I’d hoped to complete the edits for Debt of Honour/The Embers of War, but I’ve bogged down somewhere around chapter 14. Unfortunately, that’s not the sort of task that can be passed on to someone else. I seem to have one good week followed by one bad week, so hopefully I’ll be able to finish that next week and then make a start on Para Bellum. But we have too many other things to do over the next two weeks …

Thoughts and prayers would be appreciated, if you have time.

As much as I want to see the next SIM, your health has to come first before any of the series you are writing. I hope that you get good news when you get the results and it is something that can be cure relatively easily. Thanks for the update and hope you have a good week too while waiting for the results.

I don’t know if he has been feeling well enough to read our comments. But I hope he knows that we are all hoping the best for him, and his health is the most important thing

For me this is somewhat personal my father passed away because he was working so much that he did take time out to get a ‘minor’ problem (as he had called it) looked at.

I saw on Facebook Chris said it is aggressive lymphoma and treatment starts today. Some types of lymphoma, like Hodgkins, are routinely curable, whereas others are treatable but not curable yet. Here’s hoping this one will be cured.

    Prayers for better health.

    Don’t overdo it.

One reason men die sooner than women, is that we keep doing as much as we did when we were younger or when we are sick we keep trying to carry the mountain on our shoulders.

When I was younger I had ulcers and had surgery , the Dr’s said to take it easy and do nothing for a long time . (So, I did and I gradually got over that , and gradually did more and more, until I was back to where I was before)

Sometime later I was delivering roofing shingles (I worked at a lumberyard) to a house and the roofers were carrying those heavy bundles of shingles all over the roof.
One of them had the same surgery that I had had and he was toting those 50 pound things on his shoulder , just like the other roofers.

I told him not to do that ! And that he should stop what he was doing and go home!

To let those that were well carry those things!

(He did not want the other roofers to think less of him etc – so he tried to do more than everyone else)

He ignored me and died within that month.

    I am still here.

Don’t overdo it. Rest when you feel bad.

I’m sorry that you’re continuing to suffer poor health, unpleasant tests, and the gnawing uncertainty of not having a real diagnosis. I’m not very observant in religion, but I’ve politely made a request on your behalf. Fingers crossed!

  18. Fleeced August 18, 2018 at 2:53 am #

I hope you get some clear answers and then, more importantly, get well.

You’ve had the tests, now the wait until the results. This time is often the worst. I pray that the tests reveal the problem and that it is easily treated. Get well and take it easy.

I think I am with those that while I would love to see more SIM; your health comes first! I am always reminded of something my father told me when I went to a doctor once; Son they are practicing medicine and sometimes that means they do not have an answer even if you want one. Good luck with the test I hope they find something and you get better!

  30. Rex Wiederanders August 21, 2018 at 1:50 am #

I really feel bad for the chronic and severe nature of your illness. The books can wait although we all want to read them. All speed for your recovery.

  31. wandymage August 29, 2018 at 1:00 pm #

    Best wishes Chris

  32. Lindsay August 30, 2018 at 4:31 am #

Your health is more important than finishing the books Chris. Look after yourself.

  33. David Graf August 31, 2018 at 3:25 am #

As you know from his Facebook entry, the news is not good for Chris with him having to deal with an aggressive form of lymphoma, but let’s do something to help him out. On this blog, he has a “Donate” button which works through PayPal. The good news is that you do not need to have a PayPal account but you can use a debit or credit card including AmEx to contribute. Even though his medical bills will be covered as he’s in England, you know that there will be other bills. After all the enjoyment he’s given us, his readers, over the years, this is the least that we can do in return. Here’s the link on this site: http://www.chrishanger.net/cookiejar.html. Another way of getting to this is clicking on the Cookie Jar link on the first page you get when you bring up his blog. The Cookie Jar link is on the right side of the page under “Interested?”.
