Updates …

16 Feb

It’s been a good week and a bad week.

The good news is that I have started work on The Long Road Home, Book IV of A Learning Experience. There’s a snippet posted on the blog <grin>. (I’ve also been finalising the cover design for The Fists of Justice, which means I probably need to write the book.)

The bad news is that I haven’t quite recovered from a burst of travel flu – or something. It’s starting to look as though this is going to be a regular event, as I got ill after returning from Malaysia the last time too. I feel thoroughly rotten today and haven’t been able to write the next set of chapters. Hopefully, normal service will be resumed tomorrow.

There’s no news on The Zero Blessing yet, but I live in hope.

Thanks for your patience!

    Hope you get better.

Can’t wait for my next SIM fix 🙂

Aww Chris. I hope you feel better soon. I wonder what it is that gets you sick all the time from traveling? My guess would be planes honestly as I know if I don’t help give my immune system an extra boost by drinking Emergen-C every day for a week after going on a plane, I’m guaranteed to get sick with something. I swear planes are portable incubators, no matter how hard they try to keep them from being just that. 😞

I’m not sure. It didn’t happen when we flew there, only when we flew back.

Thank you for the wonderful SIM series…When you write SIM’s The Fists of Justice, could you please give us a glimpse of some people interacting on the White council and how they’re reacting to Emily behind the scenes?? A meeting of a magical family discussing Emily?? A meeting of a King and his ministers discussing Emily and the new weapons?? Keeping a book like The Sergeant’s Apprentice focused on the action helps keep things exciting, but it would be helpful with TFOJ if we could better understand WHY and HOW other groups are reacting so strongly to Emily–it would make reading the books a richer and more enjoyable experience…and shouldn’t we begin seeing other powerful sorcerers outside Whitehall beginning to interact with Emily if she’s so powerful?? More on politics in Magical Society (Emily beginning to be invited to social gatherings to sound her out and influence her)??

I would like to say that I’m curious as to how the white council functions and what some of the members think of Emily. Would at some point they start to consider offering a place on on the council.

As a side note I know its extra work for you Chris but I really enjoy the blog posts you make that may eventually find their way into the tail end of your next book as a Appendix For Example Wedding Hells or Infinite Regress to name a few are greatly appreciated.

I can do more – do you have any ideas for subjects?

      • Wazman February 26, 2017 at 5:24 pm #

One Idea for a appendix would be about how the white council is organized and how it functions as a governing body over the magical community. Is there a inner council or someone that yields over all control. There has been several references to factions with in the council itself it would be fascinating to delve deeper into that aspect. How does one join the council and at some point is the council going to offer Emily a seat too.

      • chrishanger February 27, 2017 at 9:40 pm #

True. I’ll probably do one for Book 14, where it will fit.

I totally second that. Feel better soon! Also yea the past 3 books we’ve been so focused on Emily it’s like whats going on with the rest of the world with Whitehall having disappeared? Is Gordian taking some heat? What was up with Miles at the end of the book? Void said people were really starting to be afraid of her. Does she have people on her side even? But I think I can’t wait to find out how Melissa’s family is taking things I hope they can become better friends. Melissa did say she would stand in for Emily with the engagement. > sigh so exited already.

      • chrishanger February 20, 2017 at 9:18 pm #

They will – Melissa will play a major role in upcoming books.

    • chrishanger February 20, 2017 at 9:18 pm #

I think I’ll try, but really – the series is focused on Emily.

      • Daniel February 20, 2017 at 10:31 pm #

Chris. Info dumps similar to Weber might work. Also have you considered an anthology SIM book of shorts focused on other parts of the nameless world. A short focused on Mellissa, or Void, or any number of other areas

      • chrishanger February 25, 2017 at 9:27 pm #

I have a planned short story featuring Alassa – one that sets the stage for a later book.

      • Max Million February 21, 2017 at 2:51 am #

Your IP but if it doesn’t fit the book (story) it could make a nice web post or as you’ve done in past books some backgrounding after the end of the story

      • G February 26, 2017 at 4:19 am #

        Can’t wait for Alassa’s short…

Sorry about the bout of unwellness. Relax a bit (I know you won’t stay away from writing for long, regardless.) There’s not much you can do when your head gets clogged with a cold. Best wishes for a creative spring to come.

The SIM series has become so rich in storyline and characters that Chris could devote all his time writing companion novellas that follow story line and story arc, yet involve different aspects and characters of the overall series but still fit into series timeline. . Not to mention merchandising items like maps, posters, mugs, etc. As some mention, a novella that deals with the White council, set in between series novels that provide additional detail and information, but involve different characters. But the time involved !!! Still, SIM series ranks in the top 5 all time favorite Fantasy Series Ive read.

    • chrishanger February 25, 2017 at 9:34 pm #

I’d like to spend more time on it , but i also like to vary myself.
