Updates

Hi, everyone

The important piece of news first – The Trafalgar Gambit is now available from Amazon, please review it if you liked it <grin>. I’ve also spent the day inserting changes and spelling corrections into several other books, including the Outside Context Problem series and several others. Feel free to re-download them for the most up-to-date edition.

My current plan is to start work on The School of Hard Knocks on the 17th, depending. We’re spending some days in London from Monday, then flying back to Malaysia the following Saturday. This will hopefully give me a backlog of material – the current plan is to release A Study In Slaughter (SIM3) in two months, with Work Experience (SIM4) probably two months after that. The cover for Slaughter is currently being designed. (Suggestions for the cover of Work Experience will be gratefully received.)

What I would like, if possible, is feedback on the annotations. I’ve uploaded annotations for both Schooled in Magic and Lessons in Etiquette, but I don’t know how they’re being received. If you like them, or you want to suggest changes and improvements for SIM3, please go to the discussion forum and let me know.

Several other points …

I’m currently outlining The Thin Blue Line (TEC9). This will carry on from When the Bough Breaks, I think, rather than Retreat Hell. I need a few volunteers to be warlords and suchlike as the Empire collapses into Civil War. If you want to be a warlord, let me know …

I’m also bringing out audio versions of both The Empire’s Corps series and Ark Royal, which should be making their debut in July. Watch this blog for more details.

I’m working on outlining ideas for a second series based in the universe of Ark Royal, probably focused on a smaller ship. Comments and suggestions would be very welcome.

I’m also messing around with a plan for both a SIM spin-off (a stand-alone book that will tie into the series later) and a fantasy trilogy loosely based on the Sacred Wars in Greece. Both of them will require much more research, but they will come eventually.

Anyway, I’m off to bed.

Chris

Warlord please… Good nickname for it too, right?

I’ve always dreamed of being a warlord and I think the fantasy trilogy based off the Sacred Wars in Greece sounds amazing.

I could be a Latin warlord, lol. People already think my last name sounds like a desease why not a crusher of people’s hopes and dreams.

    Hi Chris,
Which part of Malaysia do you go to? Since you frequent Malaysia, I bet you know where Singapore is (where I stay).

I’d love to be a warlord, but I’m not sure how awe inspiring my name is.

I was thinking it would be cool with a scandinavian world where they have returned to the old gods and the way of the viking. The planet could be called Midgard with starship names like Thor’s Hammer, Eye of Odin, Tyr’s Justice etc. Vikings in space! What’s not to love?

Who doesn’t want to be a warlord? I’d love be one!

On the warlords, assuming that one of them is somewhat a nice guy, IMO it would be funny if one of his advisers suggests the title “First Citizen” and the warlord accepts it not knowing that it was one of the titles of the Roman Emperors.

IIRC you established that knowledge of “ancient” history wasn’t common in this story universe.

The warlord might see “First Citizen” as just meaning “First Among Equals”. [Smile]

    • chrishanger June 13, 2014 at 12:01 am #

Might be fun (grin). But few of them are very democratic.

Who says he’s “very democratic”? He’s somewhat “nice” but is a dictator. He took power because the alternatives were worse (and honestly intends to step down in the future). He just didn’t want a “grand” title (even governor seems too high-and-mighty for him). His advisor and friend suggested “First Citizen”. (His friend does have a crazy sense of humor). [Very Big Grin]

I could go for being a warlord – I mean, I design call centres for a bank in real life, that’s plenty evil enough, right? 🙂

As for the Ark Royal follow-up (which I will most definitely be looking forward to) – one idea I’ve had but never developed is for a story purely from the viewpoint of a “lower decks” character. I guess it’s trickier to make someone like that pivotal to the action, but if it works it would be something a bit different.

    • chrishanger June 13, 2014 at 12:00 am #

I’m not sure how to do that without moving too far from the action. I hated seeing it in a few books because it just seemed like filler. But it might be doable.

I know you have all the names, but I bring forth my own. There aren’t many Petar around 😀

BTW I am soooo looking forward to getting ALE sequel. If it is not too much of a trouble, could you please share the datenyou have in mind for book 2?

    Sincerely, Petar

I’ve bought, thru Amazon, most of the Royal Marine Series and Ark Royal series thus far, you are great at taking current life realities and projecting them forward in time in a readable form. I’m in my later 60’s and have read since the mid 50’s. Your stories are among my favorites. History facts have changed from the 50’s and 60’s to today some for the better most for political expediency + the hated correctness. Good Job Mr Nuttall keep writing!!!!

Thank you! I’ll be writing much more over the next few years.

Wait, when did Ark Royal get on Audible? I just got a recommendation for it.

    Congratulations!

I want to see the new generation spaceships schematics built with the merger of human and (stolen/given) alien tech with maybe some “interesting” new tech (thanks to human ingenuity) thrown in.

There is a reason Wing Commander is best space simulator of all time for me 😀

Anyways for Ark Royal Session 2 :P, how super it will be to follow the first Human/Atlanteans mixed crewed long term/range patrol “good will” mission as they start their patrol and “show of force” on the frontier of human / Altantis / unknown space.

So many mission/enemies that they can encounter staring and not limited to: the remainder of the War Factor, Human Extremist, Pirates, Primitive Aliens, etc…

The mission they can encounter and the potential interplay between the humans and Atlanteans, etc… will make for great storytelling.

    • chrishanger June 16, 2014 at 8:30 am #

Yep! There’s a lot of room for further stories Chris Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2014 01:22:05 +0000 To: christopher_g_nuttall@hotmail.com

I would think an ark royal follow up with Percy as a character would be cool, his first posting on a carrier or something along those lines, father was a war hero, mother disappeared, there’s gotta be something there.

On another topic, is the barbarians at the gate book a part of a series?

      • Paul (Drak Bibliophile) Howard June 17, 2014 at 4:21 am #

Not Chris, but Barbarians is the start of a new series. [Smile]

      • Brett Ewald June 17, 2014 at 4:50 pm #

Ah, my mistake, there was a sample after Ark Royal 3 on my kindle, I assumed it was the same Author

      • Paul (Drak Bibliophile) Howard June 17, 2014 at 4:58 pm #

Nope, Barbarians is from Chris. The “not Chris” was because I was answering before Chris answered. IE, I’m “not Chris”. [Wink]

Yes, I intend to use Percy as a POV character for the next series. BATG is Book I of a series, yes. There will be two more. Chris Date: Tue, 17 Jun 2014 02:27:36 +0000 To: christopher_g_nuttall@hotmail.com

Ah, I stand corrected again. Thanks for the info

Cool to be a warlord – what exactly is a Marine Corpse, or will this come out in the wash? I’m getting a vision of the ‘thing’ from the recent Thor movie running amok.
