Retreat Hell (The Empire’s Corps VIII)–Out Now!

7 Feb

A new mainstream novel of The Empire’s Corps!

After the disastrous mission to Lakshmibai, the very existence of the Commonwealth is called into question by politicians on Avalon. But as the political firestorm mounts, a call for help arrives from Thule, a highly-developed world facing a major insurgency in the wake of the Empire’s collapse. Reluctantly, the Commonwealth deploys the Commonwealth Expeditionary Force to Thule.

But all is not as it seems. The insurgents are receiving support from off-world powers, while bare light years across the border, Wolfbane – another successor state to the vanished Empire – is preparing for war … and an old enemy plots her revenge. As the countdown to war begins, the CEF finds itself sinking in a quagmire of bitter hatred …

… And nothing more than pawns in a very deadly game.

As always, my books are DRM-free.  Download a sample here, then download the full version from Amazon hereAnd read the Afterword here.

Reviews and comments are always welcome.

So much for me finishing my current book NOT by Chris, I just can’t concentrate on that story when he has a new book out!

Read and reviewed, another hit. But now I can’t wait for the next in the series, I need to know what’s going to happen!

I’m pretty sure I know who the unnamed villain at the end was.

I love the Empire Corps series. The new book is great. Two questions, I see Belinda is back in the next book, does that mean we’ll see the prince again? Also how about MG Damiani? I love the fact that you can write almost as fast as I can read.

I was thinking that Roland would want to bow offstage gracefully – or at least go into the new training program at the Safehouse, so probably not. The Commandant will make an appearance, though. Chris Date: Mon, 17 Feb 2014 03:08:23 +0000 To:

Now Chris, when has “what the character wants” ever mattered to authors? [Grin]

Seriously, I could see “Crown Prince Roland” permanently disappearing but I think Marine Roland could become part of your story. [Smile]

IMO you created an interesting character in Roland and I think he deserves to return (even if the Crown Prince Roland doesn’t return).

True . Now I have to put him in a story. Chris Date: Mon, 17 Feb 2014 15:38:57 +0000 To:

For what it’s worth, I’m going to second Drak’s comments. Roland grew as much as anyone in book three and was a very interesting character. I’d hate to see him simply disappear into the sunset.

Ok, Roland will appear again in the future. But probably not in the next Belinda book. Chris Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2014 01:49:37 +0000 To:

I completely agree with you Chris having Roland go through marine training fits with the story & Rolands character growth. Besides it’s the least he can do given how many died so he could escape.
PS. Hope the marines from WTBB meet up with the Commonwealth – the Commonwealth needs a break.
PPS. Should the local government of Avalon really be making decisions for the whole Commonwealth [just to put it out there] such as having the power to kick out the Colonel.

Well, I’ll have to see if I can come up with a vehicle for putting him in . I was planning to do Marine Training as Ed’s origin story. On the other matter, Avalon supplied the CEF, so Avalon got to consider if Ed screwed up or not. Chris Date: Tue, 25 Feb 2014 22:46:53 +0000 To:
